Biografia:
Type designer con 50 anni di esperienza di tecnologie tipografiche, dai punzoni intagliati a mano ai fonts per computer. Dopo una lunga collaborazione con la società Linotype, è stato cofandatore nel 1981 della Bitstream Inc., dove ha lavorato per dieci anni. Attualmente è titolare della Carter & Cone Type Inc.. Tra i caratteri da lui disegnati vi sono Olympian (per i testi dei giornali) e Bell Centennial (per le guide telefoniche americane). Carter & Cone hanno prodotto caratteri su commissione per Time, Newsweek, Wired, U.S. News & World Report, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Le Monde, The Walker Art Center, the Museum of Modern Art, e Yale University. A partire dalla metà degli anni ’90 Carter ha lavoraro con Microsoft su una serie di "screen fonts". Carter è un Royal Designer for Industry, membro dell’Art Directors Club Hall of Fame, Senior Critic alla Yale’s Graphic Design faculty. Ha ricevuto il Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design, la AIGA medal e la Type Directors Club medal, e il MacArthur Fellows Award.
Biography:
Matthew Carter is a type designer with fifty years’ experience of typographic technologies, ranging from hand-cut punches to computer fonts. After a long association with the Linotype company, he was a co-founder in 1981 of Bitstream Inc., where he worked for ten years. He is now a principal of Carter & Cone Type Inc. His type designs include Olympian (for newspaper text) and Bell Centennial (for the US telephone directories). Carter & Cone have produced types on commission for Time, Newsweek, Wired, U.S. News & World Report, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Le Monde, The Walker Art Center, the Museum of Modern Art and Yale University. Starting in the mid-’90s Carter has worked with Microsoft on a series of "screen fonts".
